Hi, I'm James...

I was born and brought up in England and have a 100% authentic British English accent. I am fully-qualified and have been teaching English as a foreign language since 2010. I have taught at a wide range of levels from young children to university students on master's or PhD programmes. I also help people correct their English in CVs (resumes) or university assignments. I have taught in the UK, Italy, Thailand, Vietnam and China.

I teach online to anywhere in the world. I focus on effective communication, listening, pronunciation, developing speaking skills and expanding vocabulary. With me, you will learn the English native speakers use.

My teaching is based on improving your oral English in social and work situations to make it relevant to your needs.

I first started teaching in 2010 while I was staying in Italy. I realised that many people have spent a lot of time learning English. However, although they have studied from books, they have often had very little opportunity to actually speak English. When they did it was usually with other people who were not native speakers, so there was no-one to point out their mistakes and learn new language from.

My emphasis since then has been on English as it is actually used. I have taught a lot of university students, school pupils and professionals, individually or in small groups. I really enjoy seeing my students succeed. They are amazed at the progress they make with intensive coaching.

Every summer, I used to teach groups of Italian school children  who came to stay with my family in Loughborough, England. They were usually working towards exams, but I still made my main focus on communication because that's what they mainly missed in school.

I have been to South East Asia four times. I have taught in some schools on the way. Below are some photos from Thailand, Vietnam and China.
